Dubai Art Season Instants | Jorinde Voigt

That significant moment when you glimpse something new and refreshing, instantly catching your attention and leaving your mind wander through the artist’s creative alleys.
Replete with philosophical inspirations and musical scores from her early years’ cello classes, Jorinde Voigt’s large-scale drawings produce this effect.
The object of her latest creations is the analysis of dichotomies between passion and love, inspired by German sociologist Niklas Luhmann, author of “Love as Passion – The Codification of Intimacy”.
The book concerns itself with modern concepts of love and relationships, forging our individuality. Translated by Voigt into sophisticated forms and muscular fiber – looking structures, her interpretation is complete with arrows and side notes, comparable to an anatomical study. Possibly reflecting the corporeal effects of our internal struggles to comprehend the notions of love and passion, Voigt’s drawings invite to introspection, seeking for a common language.
Born in Frankfurt in 1977, Jorinde Voigt is considered a rising star and has gained international exposure with her works being acquired by Musee d’Art Moderne du Centre Pompidou and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. At this year’s edition of Art Dubai she was represented by Galleria Marie-Laure Fleisch from Rome.
