I stood and stared. For minutes. Reading, observing and letting emotions overwhelm my body and mind.
I stood and stared at Annabel Daou’s repair tapes inked with love letter passages by Tolstoy, Voltaire, Churchill and many others.
Flowing from one letter to another, the fragile pieces are intricately worked into sheets of paper bearing apparent tears, revealing each author’s sweet sorrows.
The tape maintains the broken paper whole, translating the struggle to exteriorize emotions through history and cultures, in an attempt to find a common language.
Annabel Daou is a Lebanese artist based in New York City, represented at Art Dubai by Tanja Wagner Gallery from Berlin.
